Day 1 – Arrival at Sofia Airport. The group will be welcomed by a professional tour guide. Transfer to a 4-star hotel in the city center. Small tour of the city center with visit to St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral. Dinner in a typical Bulgarian restaurant in the city center – specialties from the Bulgarian cuisine (shopska salad, fried yogurt, chicken kavarma) Overnight.
Day 2 – After breakfast visit to the unique Boyana Church with beautiful frescoes from 1259. Departure for Veliko Turnovo - the mediaeval capital of Bulgaria at the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. On the road to Veliko Turnovo, vist to the third biggest monastery in Bulgaria – the Trojan monastery, founded in 1600. The monastery is famous for its mural paintings, painted by Zahari Zograf in 1835. Arrival in Veliko Turnovo, a picturesque town, situated on three hills at the Yantra river. Accomodation in a 4-star hotel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
Day 3 – Before lunch visit to the Tzarevetz fortress with the Baldwin Tower that reminds of the victory won by the Bulgarian King Kaloyan over the crusaders in 1205. Departure to Sokolski Monastery (1833), situated in the Northern part of the Balkan mountain range. Visit to the monastery and continue to Kazanluk. On the way to Kazanluk visit to the open-air Ethnographical museum of Etura. Cofeee break with tasting of the unique white jam and coffee prepared over hot sand. The tour continues through the Shipka pass. Arrival in Kazanluk – capital of the Rose Valley. Accomodation in a 3-star hotel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
Day 4 – Afer breakfast visit to the Thracian tomb that dates back to the 4th c. B.C. The tomb is famous for its unique frescoes depicting the funeral of an important Thracian chieftain and is under the protection of UNESCO. Departure for the Bachkovo Monastery – the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria founded by the Georgian brothers Bakuriani back in 1083. Visit to the monastery. Continue to Plovdiv, the second biggest town in Bulgaria. Accomodation in a 4-star hotel in the city center. Dinner in a typical local restaurant in the Old Town. Taste the delicious local specialties here - pancake with spinach and stuffed peppers with mince. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 5 – Before lunch sightseeing tour of the Old Town. Visit to one of Bulgaria’s biggest Catholic churches – St. Ludwig from 1861. Departure for Bansko around noon time. Stop at the Dobarsko village on the way to visit the church that dates back to the 12th century. One of the church frescoes shows Jesus Christ depicted in a flying machine. Watch a small folklore performance in the yard of the church. The guests will have the opportunity to taste home made banitza and airan (typical Bulgarian specialties). Arrival in Bansko. Accomodation in a 4-star hotel. Sightseeing of the town with visit to the St. Trinity Church (1832). Dinner in a typcal Bansko Inn – grilled meat from the Bulgarian cuisine will be served. Overnight.
Day 6 – After breakfast departure for Sandanski and Melnik. Visit the Rojen monastery (12th-13th century), situated at 6 km distance from Melnik. The monastery is known for its wood carved iconostasis and for one of the 4 miraculous icons of Virgin Mary in Bulgaria. Sightseeing of Melnik. Visit to the Kordopoulov’s House with small wine tasting session. Dinner in a cozy local restaurant. Overnight in a 3-star hotal in Sandanski.
Day 7 – Departure for Sofia. On the way to Sofia visit Bulgaria’s biggest monastery- the Rila Monastery. The most beautiful monastery that dates back to the 10th centuryis hidden in the impressive Rila mountain Range. Founded by the Bulgarian monk Ivan Rilski back in the 10th century, who was later proclaimed a saint by the Church. Arrival in Sofia in the late afternoon. Accomodation in a 4-star hotel. Folkore dinner with show in a typical Bulgarian restaurant.
Day 8 – Transfer to the Sofia airport.
